Beetroot ‘Mangel Wurzel’ is an heirloom from 1700s. Hardy biennial usually grown as an annual. Edible leaves cooked as silverbeet. Very large white/yellow tapered root, in excess of 15kg, grown as animal feed. Young roots can be eaten as beetroot. Stores well. Can be used to produce mangel wine.
